Utah Legislators Launch Life Sciences Caucus

October 21, 2021

Utah legislators on Wednesday kicked-off the new Utah Life Sciences Innovation Caucus (ULSIC) with a meeting at the state capitol.

Chaired by Sen. Millner and Rep. Eliason and co-chaired by Sen. Escamilla and Rep. Dailey-Provost, the mission of the ULSIC is to educate lawmakers on many dimensions of Utah’s life sciences industry, including its significant contributions to the state’s economy and its role in advancing medical innovation.

Over 20 legislators participated in the meeting and all expressed interest in not only continuing caucus meetings on a regular basis but in doing tours of life sciences companies to learn more. Representing industry was Randy Rasmussen, chair of the BioUtah Board of Directors, Chris Gibson, CEO of Recursion and chair of BioHive, Levi Pace, senior analyst with the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, Kelvyn Cullimore, president and CEO of BioUtah and Katelin Roberts, BioHive executive director.

The next caucus meeting is scheduled for January to discuss policy issues in advance of the legislative session.
