RESPECTED VOICE IN ADVOCACY

BioUtah is the only trade association in Utah dedicated solely to advancing the interests of the life sciences industry. We work to shape public policy and influence federal and state legislation and regulation that affects our members. From start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, BioUtah represents all segments of the life sciences industry, providing a unified and effective voice in government, media, academic and public forums. BioUtah members are encourated to actively engage in our advocacy efforts, working with policy makers to ensure the continued success of Utah’s life sciences industry.

Not only does BioUtah advocate with government on behalf of the industry, we also know how busy most of our members are in making their business a success.  Therefore, we work diligently to inform our membership of pending legislative or regulatory issues that may affect them so they have timely notice of potential changes in the legislative or regulatory landscape

BioUtah’s Public Policy Positions

  • Incentives for Life Sciences Growth
  • Increase Access to Public and Private Capital
  • Strengthen Workforce Development and Talent Recruitment
  • Preserve Intellectual Property Protection
  • Repeal Medical Device Tax
  • Ensure Access to Safe Medicines
  • Equitable regulation of drug pricing and transparency

In addition to direct advocacy, BioUtah continues to develop its own initiatives to address these priorities. For instance, BioUtah, in partnership with educators and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), has created the Medical Innovations Pathways (MIP) program to help prepare high school students and adult learners for high demand jobs in the life sciences industry.

Resource to Policy Makers

BioUtah educates lawmakers about the industry so they can better understand our needs and concerns. Each year, BioUtah and life sciences companies participate in a Life Sciences Day at the Utah State Capitol where lawmakers can learn more about the innovation and important work the industry does to save lives.

“BioUtah is making a difference on Utah’s Capitol Hill. In fact, legislators like me rely on BioUtah to educate them about the industry. We need to understand how the policy decisions we make can impact innovation, health care and economic growth.”

— Rep. Robert Spendlove, Utah State Legislature
