Utah COVID-19 Small Business Quarantined Employee Grants
December 4, 2020
Utah continues to support the business community during the COVID-19 pandemic with its COVID-19 Small Business Quarantined Employee Grant program.
If an employee needs to quarantine or isolate due to a COVID-19 exposure or positive test, employers can continue paying them and be reimbursed with this grant program. Utah created this program to reimburse small businesses to help prevent exposure to individuals with COVID-19 who would otherwise come into work to continue to get paid. The grant allows you to pay the employee while they quarantine or isolate and then receive reimbursement. It’s designed to keep employees safe and protect Utah businesses.
Utilizing this grant program is a better option than having your employee file for unemployment for their time off work during quarantine. Why?
- Unemployment insurance is only a 40% replacement wage
- Avoids the wait time of processing claims (roughly 3-4 weeks)
- This program will not impact your unemployment insurance tax rate
