Thermo Fisher Opening New Manufacturing Facility In Ogden
July 2, 2021
Thermo Fisher is opening a new facility at the Boyer Business Depot Ogden, hiring 450 employees by 2022. Ogden City announced the plans on Tuesday.
“Thermo Fisher has had a presence in Utah for many years,” said Kelvyn Cullimore, president and CEO of BioUtah. “The company’s expansion in Ogden reflects their commitment to Utah jobs, healthcare and advancing the life sciences industry in the state, what we call BioHive.”
Thermo Fisher makes scientific instruments, including equipment and software for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and for use in clinical laboratories. In Ogden, the company will manufacture “single-use bioprocess containers,” which hold liquids used in the manufacturing process for COVID-19 vaccines and other therapeutics. The new manufacturing facility will be 55,000 square feet and represents a $44 million capital investment by the company.
Ogden Mayor Mike Caldwell called the company’s move to Junction City “a great win for our community’s economic and employment growth.”
Caleb Jones, who will serve as Thermo Fisher’s director of operations at the Ogden site said, “Thermo Fisher Scientific is excited to partner with the City of Ogden, the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce, and the Business Depot Ogden to bring our new site to the Ogden area. In Cache Valley we employ over 1,600 employees who work to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer each day. As we expand into the Ogden area, we are looking forward to bringing new talent to our organization that can help fulfil our company mission!”
