Sen. Mike Lee’s Deputy Chief Tours Sorenson Center for Medical Innovation

February 5, 2026

Senator Lee’s Deputy chief of staff Justin Anthony yesterday toured the new James LeVoy Sorenson Center for Medical Innovation (SCMI) at the University of Utah. The four-story, nearly 60,000-square-foot facility, led by Executive Director, Mark Paul, features advanced prototyping labs, a clinical bio-tissue surgery suite, and incubator spaces designed to foster, develop, and commercialize next-generation medical devices.

“The new Sorenson Center for Medical Innovation (SCMI) gives ‘Build it Here’ a whole new meaning,” said Anthony. “The Center supports every stage of medical device development, advancing health and growing the state’s economy. Senator Lee applauds this ground-breaking and important work in Utah.”

BioUtah’s Vice President for Government Affairs, Denise Bell, joined Anthony for the visit. Paul explained that SCMI’s innovation hub, state-of-the-art facilities, experiential learning, and expert support is unique in the nation. Consider it a one stop centralized ecosystem to make novel life-changing technologies for patients a reality.
