Rep. Moore’s Health Staff Visits Utah Life Sciences Companies
September 21, 2023
Rep. Moore’s key legislative assistant for health policy, Nick Woolridge, spent Wednesday visiting a number of life sciences companies in Salt Lake City. Woolridge, based in Moore’s DC office, toured Epitel, Curza, Alucent Biomedical and ARUP Laboratories to learn more about the life-changing work these companies are doing and how federal policies impact healthcare innovation and advancements in diagnostics.
Nick, a quick study, covered a number of issues, including FDA regulation, accelerating Medicare coverage of emerging technologies and clinical lab test reimbursement. He also met with the BioUtah team to get an overview of the sector, including how medical device, diagnostics and biopharma, helps to power the state’s economy and advance health.
BioUtah appreciates the support of Rep. Moore and his staff in spending time in the field to learn more about our growing industry. Moore has introduced legislation to bridge the lengthy gap between FDA approval or clearance of a product and Medicare coverage. He also strongly supports restoring the full deductibility of R&D expenses as they are incurred, instead of amortizing them as the new law now requires.
