Nelson Labs Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary
Nelson Labs, a global leader in testing and advisory services for the medical device and pharmaceutical industries, on May 5, recognized its 40th anniversary with a golf tournament and awards dinner at the Homestead in Midway, Utah. Founded in 1985 as a modest laboratory in the University of Utah’s Research Park, Nelson Labs has since grown into an expansive network of 12 locations across North America, Asia, and Europe.
A steady rain didn't dampen the occasion, which was marked by golf enthusiasts who braved the weather, and a crowd of dedicated employees and guests who enjoyed an evening filled with good food and inspiring remarks by Nelson leadership. BioUtah representatives, Denise Bell and Josel McCabe, and BioUtah Board member, Jay Muse, were on hand to help commemorate the occasion. |

Kelvyn Cullimore: An Unfair Penalty on Life-Saving Pills
BioUtah President and CEO, Kelvyn Cullimore, recently penned an op-ed published in the Deseret News on the need to fix the Inflation Reduction Act's (IRA) "pill penalty." The pill penalty refers to a provision in the IRA that allows Medicare to impose government drug price negotiations for small-molecule drugs (like pills and tablets) years sooner than for large-molecule drugs (biologics). Cullimore notes that there are times when government interventions create unanticipated negative consequences. Such is the case with this IRA policy.

Trump Expected to Sign 'Most Favored Nation' EO to Cut Drug Prices
As of this writing, reports have surfaced suggesting that President Trump intends to sign an executive order next week that would apply most favored nation (MFN) pricing to drugs in the Medicare and/or Medicaid program. Such a pricing system would link the prices of drugs in these programs to the lowest prices in foreign countries. While details are still outstanding, BioUtah and its national partners, BIO and PhRMA, are expressing concerns to lawmakers.
"Importing price controls from other nations with socialized medicine programs will limit access to treatment options for America’s most vulnerable patients and hinder important research and development," said Kelvyn Cullimore, president and CEO of BioUtah.
