Edwards TAVR Receives FDA Approval
Edwards Lifesciences has received approval from the FDA for its transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) therapy for severe aortic stenosis patients without symptoms, marking the first FDA approval for TAVR in asymptomatic patients.
"This approval is a powerful opportunity to streamline patient care and improve the efficiency of the healthcare system,” said Larry Wood, Edwards’ corporate vice president and group president, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement and Surgical. “We are proud to partner with leading physicians to advance our knowledge of this deadly disease with high quality science and optimize the treatment pathway for patients.”

BD Reports Second Quarter Fiscal 2025 Financial Results
BD announced results for its fiscal 2025 second quarter ending March 31, 2025.
Highlights include:
- Revenue of $5.3B increased 4.5% as reported, 6.0% currency-neutral, and 0.9% organic
- GAAP and adjusted diluted EPS of $1.07 and $3.35, respectively.
- Net income of $308M down $42M or 8% from 2024.

Patent Legislation Introduced in Congress
Yesterday, Sens. Thom Tillis (R-NC), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property, and Chris Coons (D-DE) and Reps. Kevin Kiley (R-CA) and Scott Peters (D-CA) reintroduced the Patent Eligibility Restoration Act. The legislation will restore patent eligibility to important inventions across many fields while also addressing concerns over the patenting of mere ideas, the mere discovery of what already exists in nature, and social and cultural content.

President Sends Budget Request to Congress
The White House is expected today to release an outline of President Trump’s FY 26 budget proposal. A more detailed budget request could be sent later this month. As of this writing, it’s not clear if the proposed budget will include the administration’s rescissions request for funding already approved by Congress. Ultimately, Congress has the authority to determine spending, and what Congress adopts has often differed from the President’s budget.
