State legislators yesterday got a first hand look at Utah’s life sciences industry, touring Stryker Neurovascular and bioMérieux. Stryker and bioMérieux, two leading life sciences employers in the state, discussed their innovative healthcare technologies with the eight lawmakers.

At Stryker, the tour featured the manufacturing of the company’s stroke intervention technologies and physician training facilitiy. Stryker’s stroke technology has become a standard of care and saved countless lives.

bioMeriéux leadership took State Senators and Representatives through the company’s reagent facility, where their primary products are developed for an array of infectious disease diagnostics.

“These tours in the field, organized by BioUtah in conjunction with AdvaMed and the Utah Life Sciences Innovation Caucus, give legislators a bird’s eye view of the innovation taking place in Utah and help them better understand the industry’s role in changing patients’ lives,” said Kelvyn Cullimore, president and CEO of BioUtah. “We thank the legislators for taking the time to make these personal visits and we look forward to working with them to continue to advance healthcare.”

AdvaMed’s Darbi Gottlieb also attended the tours, underscoring the national association’s partnership with BioUtah and commitment to med tech.

“Together, with AdvaMed, we work to support our industry,” added Cullimore.
