Fulgent Genetics Lands Utah COVID-19 Testing Contract
September 18, 2020
TestUtah has some new twists. Following the expiration of certain state contracts September 1, the Utah Department of Public Health has changed direction and contracted with a Los Angeles laboratory, Fulgent Genetics, to process COVID-19 testing for Utahns under the state’s coronavirus testing initiative. The test, which has received EUA from the FDA, will be administered at several fixed and mobile sites in select Utah counties.
“Utah is blessed with numerous qualified laboratories,” said Kelvyn Cullimore, president and CEO of BioUtah. “As we work together to safeguard public health and reactivate the economy, our robust life sciences industry stands ready to assist. We look forward to working with state leaders to bring these services closer to home in the future.”
In reporting on this news, genomeweb noted that Utah is home to approximately 3.2 million people, according to a US Census Bureau estimate from July 1, 2019.
