October 28, 2021
University of Utah Research Park was host to the 2021 International Conference of the Association of University Research Parks from October 18-21, 2021. The opening “campfire” was held at Red Butte Amphitheater on the afternoon of October 19. Speakers included new University of Utah President, Taylor Randall and Dean Peter Trapa of the College of Science. They were followed by a distinguished panel comprised of Tina Larson, President & COO of Recursion, Marcus Gerhardt, Co-founder & CEO of Blackrock Microsystems, and Kirk Ririe, CEO Idaho Molecular and Co-founder of BioFire Diagnostics. The panel was moderated by Kelvyn Cullimore, CEO of BioUtah.
Although the weather was a bit cold and drizzly the all-star panel warmed up the audience addressing the topic, “UTAH – THE SECRET SAUCE RESULTING IN A #1 POSITION FOR INNOVATION, ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND ECONOMIC VITALITY”. Not only did the panelists address the exciting technologies their companies were developing, they helped emphasize the importance Research Park played in their development. Conference participants left with a greater understanding of why Utah is such a hot spot for life sciences development and why the BioHive is the place to be.
