RESPECTED VOICE IN ADVOCACY

BioUtah is the only trade association in Utah dedicated solely to advancing the interests of the life sciences industry. We work to shape public policy and influence federal and state legislation and regulation that affects our members. From start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, BioUtah represents all segments of the life sciences industry, providing a unified and effective voice in government, media, academic and public forums. BioUtah members are encouraged to actively engage in our advocacy efforts, working with policy makers to ensure the continued success of Utah’s life sciences industry.

We know our members are focused on their businesses, so BioUtah advocates for you before the state legislature, Congress and government agencies. We also work diligently to inform our membership of pending legislation and regulation that may impact our industry. As a member, BioUtah is your watchdog for timely notification of changes in the legislative and regulatory landscape.

BioUtah’s Public Policy Positions

• Incentives for Life Sciences Growth
• Increase Access to Public and Private Capital
• Strengthen Workforce Development and Talent Recruitment
• Preserve Intellectual Property Protection
• Ensure Access to Safe Medicines
• Equitable Regulation of Drug Pricing and Transparency
• Advocate for Timely and Affordable Device and Drug Reviews
• Remove Barriers (Regulatory or Financial) to Innovation

A key to our success in advocacy is to work closely with both federal and state policy makers. At the federal level, BioUtah maintains communications with both Senators and Representatives as well as their key staff members. We also strive to arrange site visits for congressional Members and their staffs in order to familiarize them with the industry.

At the state level, BioUtah strives to build relationships with key legislators to assure there are legislators on capitol hill that are friends of the industry. Each legislative session we track key legislation affecting our industry. The president of BioUtah is frequently on the Hill advocatingfor the industry. BioUtah will also promote legislation favorable to the industry.

Resource to Policy Makers

BioUtah educates lawmakers about the industry so they can better understand our needs and concerns. Each year, BioUtah and life sciences companies participate in a Life Sciences Day at the Utah State Capitol where lawmakers can learn more about the innovation and important work the industry does.

“BioUtah is making a difference on Utah’s Capitol Hill. In fact, legislators like me rely on BioUtah to educate them about the industry. We need to understand how the policy decisions we make can impact innovation, health care and economic growth.”

— Sen. Ann Millner, Majority Whip, Utah State Senate
