Todd Allen, MD

Dr. Allen currently serves as the Senior Executive Medical Director for the Healthcare Delivery Institute at Intermountain Healthcare where he leads Intermountain’s efforts in process improvement in clinical medicine, systems research, and teaching in Intermountain’s Advanced Training Program. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery (Adjunct Track) at the University of Utah School of Medicine and as part of a novel collaboration with the Stanford University School of Medicine, he was recently appointed as Clinical Associate Professor (Affiliated) in the Department of Emergency Medicine of Stanford University. He served as the most recent medical director of the Emergency Department Development Team which supervised the work of the 21 emergency departments across the breadth of Intermountain Healthcare’s hospitals. In that role, he helped achieve new standards of excellence on Intermountain’s Sepsis Bundle and the “Opioid Reduction and Best Use” initiatives for our Emergency Departments. During that same time, he also had the responsibility to lead and facilitate the development and implementation of Intermountain Healthcare’s next generation electronic health record in partnership with the Cerner Corporation. Dr. Allen has been directly involved in emergency research at Intermountain Healthcare since 1999 when he was appointed as the first director of research for the Department of Emergency Medicine and Division of Trauma at LDS Hospital and Intermountain Medical Center. He served as the site co-PI for the ProCESS clinical trial and was the site co-PI for the Utah site of the PETAL network. He has authored or co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and numerous other abstracts.
